Turkey removes pro-KDP Rudaw TV from Turkish satellite operator

Turkish Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTÜK) has decided to remove Kurdish Rudaw TV from Turkish satellite operator Türksat.

Amid Turkey’s ongoing objections and reactions to the Independence Referendum in Southern Kurdistan, Turkish Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTÜK) held an emergency meeting and decided to remove pro-KDP Rudaw TV from Turkish satellite operator Türksat.

The Supreme Board of Radio and Television announced that the TV network has been removed from Türksat on grounds of “spreading propaganda for terrorist organisations like PKK and YPG” despite the fact that both Rudaw and K24 cause reactions among the Kurds for their reports against both PKK and Rojava.

Media outlet Rudaw broadcasting on Türksat served as one of AKP’s broadest propaganda instruments. It was founded with infrastructure support from Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) after the Kurdish version of state TV TRT, TRT Şeş, gained no prestige among the Kurdish people.

RTÜK had previously taken several Kurdish and pro-Kurdish television and radio networks off the air, and put pressure in international arena for the shutdown of Kurdish TV networks abroad.
