Turkey suspends European Convention on Human Rights

Turkey has suspended the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) during the course of the state of emergency declared across the country yesterday.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister and Government Spokesperson Numan Kurtulmuş announced on Thursday that the European Convention on Human Rights will be suspended in line with the State of Emergency.

Kurtulmuş said they wanted to end the State of Emergency within one and a half month at the latest, and that they didn't anticipate a curfew.

Admitting that the government showed weakness during the coup attempt, Kurtulmuş added that the structure of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) will undergo some changes.
