Reports are coming through of an explosion at the police special operations center in Ankara's Gölbaşı district, and an extraordinary military activity in both Ankara and Istanbul.
The bridge connecting the Europe and Asia side in Istanbul has been closed to traffic. Turkish capital Ankara is also witnessing an intense aerial activity.
Reports also include that helicopters have opened fire in the area where the building of MİT Undersecretariat is located.
Turkish Minister Binali Yıldırım has commented the incident as a coup attempt of a section in the army.
The statement by Turkish Armed Forces said that; "TSK has seized the power totally for the re-establishment of the constitutional order, democracy, human rights and freedoms, for the domination of the superiority of law and the disrupted asayish (public security) order. All our international treaties and commitments remain prevailing."
