Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Cemil Çiçek, will meet with leaders of the three parties today about the constitutional works that have recently come to a deadlock after the ruling AK Party proposed the change of Turkey's government type to “presidential system”.
Çiçek will first meet with MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) leader Devlet Bahçeli before the meeting with BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Gültan Kışanak and that with CHP (Republican People's Party) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
Çiçek is also expected to have a meeting with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with no date having been disclosed for the meeting yet.
In a statement about the meetings, Çiçek said that the parliament does not have much time left for the completion of constitutional works. "We have elections ahead of us and it is really difficult to perform these works in the election period as political parties cannot focus on these works while making vigorous efforts before elections."
