Turkish prosecutor launches investigation into 18 MEBYA-DER lawyers

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation against 18 lawyers of MEBYA-DER without obtaining permission from the Ministry of Justice. The lawyers learned about the investigation in the Courthouse, where they went to defend their clients.

The 18 lawyers of the Association of Solidarity with Families Who Lost Their Relatives (MEBYA-DER) are as follows: Muhittin Muhuç, Gulan Çağın Kaleli, Serhat Eren, Baver Mızrak, Şilan Çelik, Berdan Acun, Osman Çelik, Deniz Yıldız, Fettah Keleş, Ramazan Kurt, Harika Karataş, Hüseyin Boğatekin, Emrah Baran and Fırat İke, Elif Taşdöğen, Serhat Çakmak. The names of 2 lawyers are not reported since there is a confidentiality order.

Lawyers learned that they were included in the investigation conducted against 29 MEBYA-DER members who were detained. When MEBYA-DER members and executives were brought to the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the prosecutor informed the lawyers that they were suspects in the file and thus cannot be allowed to defend their clients.
