The family of YPJ fighter Sozdâr İsa, who died fighting ISIS gangs in Kobanê, has been prevented by Turkish soldiers from crossing the border to attend her funeral and beaten.
The family of YPJ fighter Sozdâr İsa went from Suruç intending to cross to Kobanê for the burial, but was stopped by troops. Since yesterday the family has been waiting at the Yumurtalık crossing in the village of Boydê. They have also suffered insults and manhandling from Turkish soldiers. YPJ fighter Sozdar İsa’s mother, Emşa İsa, said: “we wanted to cross the border, but we were stopped by troops, who pointed their guns at us. They told us: ‘why did you allow your daughter to go?’ They beat us and moved us away from the border. I will attend my daughter’s funeral, whatever it takes.”
Father Mustafa İsa added: “The troop threw stones at us. I told them we wanted to bury my daughter, but they pointed their guns at us and insulted us”. The family then went to ask those maintaining a vigil at the border for assistance. Those at the vigil informed HDP MPs in order for them to help the family get across the border.
