Two journalists will appear in court today as one is sent to jail

Two journalists, Tayyip Temel, former Chief Editor and current columnist of Azadiya Welat (the only Kurdish daily newspaper in Turkey), and Kazým Þeker, Editor of Özgür Gündem Daily paper are still in custody. They had been arrested in the context of the so called Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) operation.

Temel and Þeker should appear in court today as the 48 hours custody ends today.

Yesterday, Aydýn Yýldýz, a reporterfor Dicle News Agency (DÝHA), was detained and sent to prison in connection with the KCK case.

The Platform for Solidarity with Arrested Reporters (TGDP) condemned the arrests and custody of journalists. It said that these actions need to be defined as “direct attacks on freedom of press.
