It was claimed that the tweet shared by Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu on 26 July saying that two PKK members were killed by Turkish soldiers in the rural area of the village of Damlacık in Özalp did not reflect the truth and that one of the murdered people was a villager living in the Iranian village of Bexleci in Xoy.
Soylu wrote: “Two terrorists, one of them Iranian, who infiltrated Turkey from the Iranian border into Özalp in Van were killed in a successful operation by our Gendarmerie in the Eren Blockade-22 Operation in the Damlacık countryside."
A Twitter user responded by saying: "This is my village. One of the people killed was a person named Peyman from the village of Xoy/Beğleci. All our villagers know the man. The other person killed is said to be a refugee. Families want to take the body now, but there is no body around.”
