Two wounded as ISIS opens mortar fire on people at border vigil
The ISIS gangs who opened fire on the people holding vigil in solidarity with Kobanê in the village Siwêdê of Suruç yesterday, fired mortars on the people at vigil in the Derwaş village of Suruç today.
The gangs, having suffered casualties and defeats in the face of Kobanê resistance, fired 6 mortar shells 5 of which hit the area where hundreds of people are holding vigil at the border. The mortars left 2 people, including a woman, Şebnem Ay, wounded, destroyed a vehicle and damaged three others.
Şebnem Ay and the other person wounded in the attack are currently being treated by a medical team in the village of Dewşen.
DTK (Democratic Society Congress) executive Songül Morsümbül who is in the vigil area responded to the attacks saying that; “Turkey turns a blind eye to ISIS bombing on this area. This a border violation. If it was another area hit by ISIS mortars, they would raise hell. But when it is the Kurds under attack, Turkey remains contented with just watching. This shows that Turkey is supporting ISIS gangs and conniving at its attacks. But we will not leave the border at any cost”.
As Morsümbül continued to speak to the people at the resistance vigil, the ISIS gangs fired another mortar which fell on an empty field. The people in the area responded to the attacks chanting slogans “Bijî Serok Apo” (Long Live Leader Apo) and “Bijî Berxwedana YPG” (Long Live the Resistance of YPG).
HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) deputies Aysel Tuğluk, İbrahim Ayhan, Hüsamettin Zenderlioğlu made examinations at the scene where they reached soon after hearing about the incident.
