UK Foreign Secretary replied to motion moved by Playd Cymru

UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said: "When raising Mr Öcalan’s case with the Turkish authorities we have encouraged them to implement the recommendations made by the CPT following their previous visit to the prison."

UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt replied in writing to Playd Cymru motion on the hunger strike resistance moved by Liz Saville Roberts MP.

UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said: "Promoting human rights is an essential aim of the foreign policy of Global Britain. We are committed to the promotion of universal human rights - it is the right thing to do, legally and morally. It is also the rational thing to do: human rights violations and abuses and the absence of the rule of law lead to unstable, less prosperous societies."

The UK government, said Hunt, "has raised Mr Öcalan’s case with the Turkish authorities, most recently with the Turkish Ambassador on 13 May. We have also raised the case of Ms Güven and other hunger strikers directly, including the importance of their access to appropriate medical treatment."

Hunt added: "When raising Mr Öcalan’s case with the Turkish authorities we have encouraged them to implement the recommendations made by the CPT following their previous visit to the prison."
