Uppsala Left Party shows solidarity with hunger strikers

"The ongoing hunger strikes are to achieve peace. We demand an end to the isolation.”

Sweden’s Left Party Uppsala Regional Chairperson Per Markus Risman and International Affairs Officer Yekbun Alp issued a joint statement to show solidarity with the hunger strikes against the isolation.

Risman and Alp issued a video message supporting the hunger strikers demanding an end to the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Risman said: “We hereby announce that we are in solidarity with Leyla Guven. Leyla Guven has been on a hunger strike for 179 days. We not only appreciate her resistance of great sacrifice, we also support it wholeheartedly.”

Alp said the isolation imposed upon Ocalan goes against all laws and added: “As such, it goes against human rights and democracy. The ongoing hunger strikes are to achieve peace. We demand an end to the isolation.”
