Walls of Shame brought to Parliament

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) parliamentary group deputy chair İdris Baluken has tabled the Turkish parliament a motion concerning the walls of shame Turkey is building on Nusaybin-Qamışlo, Serêkaniyê-Ceylanpınar, Efrin-Kilis and Şenyurt-Dirbesiyê borders.

Reminding that Kurds have made their choice on the side of a democratic, free and autonomous status as the third alternative within the war going on in Syria for two years now, Baluken remarked that the revolution of Rojava people has unfortunately been drenched in blood with the massacres carried out by the al-Qaeda linked al-Nusra front that is provided with ammunition and logistic support by the AKP government.

Baluken stressed that the AKP government supported these armed gang groups because of its bother about the Kurds' attaining their rights as a people. He noted that the government's policy aimed at breaking the Rojava revolution has however been defeated by the resistance of the People's Defense Units (YPG) fighters against radical gang groups.

Referring to the walls Turkey is building on the border to Rojava, Baluken said these walls were constructed with an aim to prevent the meeting of peoples on two sides of the border.

Baluken pointed out that by doing this the Turkish state wanted to update the Ankara Agreement with which the Kurdish people were separated apart from each other with artificial borders, wire fences and walls in 1921.

Noting that the building of the walls of shame was unacceptable, BDP parliamentary group deputy chair demanded the immediate ending of the wall constructions and the opening of border gates for humanitarian aid.
