Women for peace going to Kobanê border

Women’s organisations in Turkey, taking action at the call of the Women’s Initiative for Peace, will keep vigil on 4 and 5 October in solidarity with people resisting in Kobanê against the attacks of the ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and al Sham) gangs carrying out massacres.

Issuing a statement regarding the vigil, the women recalled the Turkish parliament voted in favour of authorising military forces to intervene in Rojava, Syria and Iraq yesterday, and they said that Turkey is now involved in this war.

The statement said: “The threat of the ISIS gangs against the whole people of the region, especially against the Alevis, Christians, Kurds and Yezidis is more serious than ever. In addition, the lives freedom and bodies of women are under threat. Thus, we are coming together as women, women’s organisations, feminist organisations, women from political parties and from the democratic communities’ organisations at the call of the Women’s Initiative for Peace, and going to Suruç in solidarity with the resistance of Kobanê and the people in the region."

The women will go to the border in buses from in front of the registry office of Kadıköy Municipality at 21:30 in Söğütlüçeşme today. They will keep vigil at the border on 4-5 October, which is the Eid holiday.
