Women's Educational and Psychological Counseling Center (EPÝDEM) of Diyarbakýr’s Yeniþehir Municipality held a press conference on "women slaughter".
Reading the press release, EPÝDEM administrator Rojbin Çiçekçi remarked that woman killings in the region are increasing year by year particularly in Urfa, according to the research made by the Federation of Women’s Associations.
Çiçekçi pointed out that women’s suicides are triggered by the second wife tradition, which comes from Syria, as well as legal deficiencies and inadequate measures in the country.
Çiçekçi noted that there are a large number of woman murders that still haven’t been clarified and underlined that women’s organizations have many times appealed to authorities about the killing of a victim, Mürvet Acar who was killed with a shotgun in Ergani district of Diyarbakýr on September 13th, who however refused to give any information for the confidentiality in the file of the case.
Çiçekçi called on all women and sensitive segments to fight, organize and speak against “woman slaughter”.
