As part of the South Africa delegation of the Kurdistan Youth Diplomatic Committee, events and workshops on the revolution in Rojava and the Kurdish freedom movement took place in several cities. About 150 workers, students and local activists gathered in Port Elizabeth, George and Pietermaritzburg to discuss with the Kurdish delegation the similarities and differences of communal organizing in South Africa and Kurdistan.
Discussions focused on building alternative organizing models to the state system and the role of youth in revolutionary processes. The importance of international cooperation was emphasized and ways to create links between the societies of South Africa and Kurdistan were discussed.
Next on the delegation's agenda is KwaZulu-Natal, where the committee will meet with the country's largest social movement, Abahlali baseMjondolo, to better learn about community organizing in the townships.
