The struggle of the Boğaziçi students will spread, says Sevtap Akdağ

Socialist Solidarity Platform (SODAP) Spokesperson, Sevtap Akdağ, said that the demands of Boğaziçi students are democratic and indispensable against the unlawful practices of the government.

Socialist Solidarity Platform (SODAP) Spokesperson Sevtap Akdağ participated in the "Justice for All" campaign launched by the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP). Akdağ was interviewed by ANF about her views on the resistance of Boğaziçi University students and the trustee rule.

Akdağ said that the current government imposes a monist regime in all institutions of Turkey. Emphasizing that the trustee policy started with removing HDP mayors first, Akdağ said: "The government tests all of its coercive practices, unlawfulness, and anti-democratic practices primarily on the HDP and the dissenters.”

Trustee’s rule started with HDP municipalities, then the government legalized the appointment of trustees to civil society organisations and passed bills through the parliament. "The government did not even respect a limited democracy in Turkey’s universities", Akdağ said.

Expressing that they expect the university resistance to spread to the whole society, Akdağ said: "For a very long time, they have been making appointments similar at universities. However, Boğaziçi students, lecturers, academics and the whole social opposition have raised a serious voice because this illegality has become unbearable. A social opposition emerged since trustee rules cannot produce consent anymore. The demands here are the most democratic and indispensable. This struggle will spread to the people, to the whole society, we expect it to spread.”
