YPG: Gangs inflicted a major blow in Kobanê

As fierce clashes are continuing in the Kobanê region of West Kurdistan on the 17th day, dozens of gang members were killed and their weapons seized in the southern, eastern and western fronts of the region in the last 24 hours.

YPG (People's Protection Units) Press Centre has released a statement giving details about the last one day of violent clashes going on since 15 September when ISIS gangs launched a new wave of intensified attacks with heavy weaponry with an aim to enter and occupy the Kobanê town.

YPG stated that the advance of the gangs on three fronts has been halted despite the highly intensified attacks launched by gangs with heavy weaponry, artillery and tanks. It noted that the gangs have been inflicted a major blow in heavy clashes on the southern and southeastern fronts.

The statement reported that YPG forces have broken dozens of attacks launched by the gangs from various directions over the village of Helinc along last night. While clashes are continuing in some areas in the village and the Newroz hall region, YPG forces and the local people who have also taken up arms are putting a brave and historic resistance against the gangs that are trying to enter the town from the eastern and western sides of the region.

According to the statement, 43 members of the inhuman gangs were killed and large quantities of ammunition were seized by YPG forces during last night's clashes around the Helinc village. 11 other members of the gangs were ascertained killed and many weapons belonging to them were destroyed in clashes around the Newroz hall, YPG Press Centre said and noted that clashes are continuing in some areas in this region.

The statement added that fighting between YPG forces and gangs struggling to enter Kobanê from the eastern and western sides of the town is continuing.
