YPG member Dilek remanded before treatment completed
Selahattin Dilek, a YPG fighter wounded fighting against ISIS in Kobanê and then taken by police from the hospital in Suruç where he was receiving treatment and interrogated for 4 days, has been remanded in custody accused of being “Head of the PKK’s Diyarbakır region."
Selahattin Dilek, who was seriously wounded while fighting in the ranks of the YPG against ISIS gangs in Kobanê, and taken to the Suruç State hospital for treatment, was taken from his hospital bed by the police and accused of being in charge of the “PKK’s Diyarbakır region."
The Turkish press published articles along these lines provided to them by the police as Dilek was interrogated for 4 days at the Diyarbakır Anti-Terror branch.
Following the interrogation, Dilek was taken to the Diyarbakır Prosecutor’s office without his treatment being completed and, after he was questioned, sent to the court.
In the court Dilek refuted the charges against him, saying he was a member of the PYD and had fought against ISIS for 24 days in Kobanê.
Dilek said he could not remember exactly when he had joined the PYD, and that he did not know the person called ‘Sofi’ alleged to be the PKK's head of the Diyarbakır region. Dilek said: "I reject the charges against me. I may resemble the person whose photo is in the file, but it is not me. The picture may have been manipulated."
The court decided to remand in custody the "Sofi" code named PKK member on charges of "undermining the unity of the state and territorial integrity” and “founding or directing an armed organisation”.
The Court charged Dilek with giving the orders for armed attacks on a military unit protecting the Kralkizi dam in the Dicle district of Diyarbakır and the Topçular Gendarme post in Hani district on 3 July 2013, and organising rocket attacks on a police vehicle in Dicle on 11 September 2012.
