The YPG (People's Protection Units) Press Centre has issued a statement regarding the latest clashes in Kobanê, which has been under siege since 15 September, and is putting up a spirited resistance despite limited means.
The YPG Press Centre has stated that the ISIS gangs, suffering heavy losses against the resistance in Kobanê, have brought in reinforcements and armaments from towns in the surrounding area, such as Jarablus and Tel Abyad (Girê Spî), and are stepping up attacks on Kobanê. The YPG has stated that in the last 24 hours 70 gang members have been killed on 3 fronts, and that an attempted suicide bomb attack was foiled.
The statement read: “ISIS attacks aiming to occupy Kobanê are continuing in their 27th day. Suffering losses at the hands of our forces, the gangs are bringing in reinforcements arms and ammunition from places such as Jarablus and Tel Abyad (Girê Spî), and are stepping up attacks on Kobanê. Our forces are mounting a spirited determined resistance against the ISIS gangs on all three fronts.”
According to YPG's balance sheet of clashes, on the eastern front where the gangs have intensified their attacks, there were clashes all day and night between the gangs and our forces. As far as could be ascertained, 17 gang members were killed in these clashes.
On the south eastern front at Miştenur the gangs launched multiple attacks. YPG forces repulsed these attacks, killing 11 gang members, the statement said.
Bomb-laden vehicle exploded amongst gangs
YPG remarked that in the last 24 hours the gangs launched their most concerted attacks on the southern front where YPG forces put up a heroic resistance and inflicted serious blows on the gangs.
"The gangs attempted to attack with a bomb-laden vehicle, but it was blown up by our forces while still in gang positions. A group of gang members also tried to infiltrate our positions under cover of a bombardment, but were hit and wiped out. Our forces also destroyed a gang vehicle along with its occupants. On this front 36 gang members were killed", it added.
The statement said that on the western front YPG forces carried out an attack on a gang emplacement in the rural area, destroying a vehicle and killing 6 gang members. "Our forces are continuing their resistance against gang attacks on all three fronts, where intensive clashes are continuing”, it noted.
26 gang members, including a commander, killed in Serêkaniyê
The YPG has also announced that in an operation launched in Serêkaniyê 26 gang members were killed, including a commander, providing the following information;
“At around midday on 11 October an operation was launched by our forces in the Mebruka and Dehma area to the south west of Serêkaniyê. Our forces also launched a simultaneous attack in the Ravya area, destroying a group of gang members. A vehicle belonging to the gangs was also hit in the Dehma-Mebruka area. As far as can be ascertained, 26 gang members were killed in this operation, including a commander named as Abu Jamal. The operation is continuing. During the operation a comrade, Kamuran Koçbêr (Şexmus Mio), who put fear in the ranks of the gangs, fell while fighting heroically.”
