YPJ fighter martyred in the battle of Qereqozax

Announcing the martyrdom of one of their fighters, YPJ reaffirmed their commitment to the pledge made to their martyrs: “Our resistance will continue in the fight for freedom.”

The General Command of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) announced the martyrdom of one of their fighters, Dilvin Mohammed, in the battle of Qereqozax, a strategic bridge for the defence of Kobanê and the autonomous regions east of the Euphrates.

The YPJ statement said the following:

“The women’s revolution in Rojava, represented by young women who see all their hopes within the ranks of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), has taken significant steps forward, securing great achievements through immense resistance. The Turkish state continues to launch organized attacks on our regions with the aim of breaking the will of the people. However, the resistance that began at the start of January, particularly in the areas of Qereqozax and Tishrin Dam, has demonstrated the determination of women in protecting the revolution.

YPJ fighters, with their deep faith and courageous stance, are at the forefront of defending the homeland. Our comrade, Dilvin Mohammed, known by her nom de guerre Yildiz Çiya, was one of these brave women who, with the spirit of vengeance for the era, stood against the occupation forces’ attacks on the Qereqozax frontlines.

Our comrade Yildiz Çiya was born in the city of Kobani into a patriotic family. The national culture of her family played a prominent role in shaping her character. Her father was martyred on June 25, 2015, during the attack by ISIS forces on Kobani, where many martyrs fell in the massacre carried out by ISIS. The people of Kobani, through their great resistance against ISIS mercenaries, secured their place in the history of freedom struggles.

The resistance born in Kobani, coupled with the influence of the leader Abdullah Öcalan’s philosophy and the revolutionary life principles embraced by young women, inspired our comrade Yildiz in her journey toward freedom. She joined the ranks of the YPJ in 2021. The higher ideals of a free life became the foundation of her struggle. In a short period, she learned the revolutionary way of life, studied combat techniques to confront the hostile attacks targeting her people, contributed to her military and intellectual training, and prepared herself to shoulder the responsibilities of the revolution.

Our comrade Yildiz was a dynamic symbol in her surroundings and was always present to spread morale among those around her. With her love for discipline, she was ready to take on all revolutionary tasks and responsibilities.

When the Turkish state and its allied mercenaries intensified their attacks on the region, our comrade Yildiz insisted on heading to the Qereqozax frontlines. Refusing to back down from her military role, she courageously defended her land with high spirits. She was martyred on December 29, 2024, during an attack by the Turkish occupation forces.

As the Women’s Protection Units, we reaffirm our commitment to the pledge made to our martyrs: to continue the struggle. We extend our condolences to the beloved family of our comrade Yildiz and remain steadfast in upholding freedom through the unity of our patriotic people. Our resistance will continue in the fight for freedom.”
