The Green Left Party (YSP) candidate for Van for the May 14 parliamentary elections, Mahmut Dindar, spoke to ANF, calling on the people to fight the fascism of the ruling AKP-MHP bloc.
The long-time politician stated that they are working to ensure the election of 8 deputies from Van province, vowing to make sure that the city is represented in parliament in the strongest way.
Noting that all the municipalities in Van had been usurped through an anti-democratic dismissal of elected representatives and appointment of trustees, Dindar said: “Our people are waiting for May 14 when they will respond to the atrocities of the AKP-MHP fascism. Our people are ready for the upcoming elections, and we will prepare ourselves much better to ensure that 8 deputies are elected from Van. I trust that we will achieve it. We are well aware of all the problems experienced in our regions. I am sure that we will achieve great work in parliament in line with the program of our party.”
Dindar was born in Van’s Gevaş district in 1964 and graduated from the Industrial Vocational High School in Van. During his work at the Sugar Factory in Erciş district, he was active in workers’ unions and served as a union executive for a long time. After his retirement, he worked for the Association for Assistance, Solidarity and Culture with Families Losing Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations (MEBYA-DER). He was jailed in 2021 and remained in prison for a year. He then worked for the ‘Initiative for Respect and Justice for the Dead’. He also served as the co-chair of the HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Edremit district branch.
