Zozan Uzun: Arrests worrying

Kurdish writer Mehmet Uzun’s wife Zozan Uzun reacted to the board of Diyarbakýr 6th High Criminal Court for considering “joining Uzun’s funeral ceremony” as a crime and an evidence for organization membership.

Speaking to ANF on the matter, Zozan Uzun evaluated the court board’s consideration as inconceivable. Uzun reminded that Mehmet Uzun’s funeral ceremony was joined by 70 thousand people including Swedish and Greek Chief Consuls and well-known writers like Yaþar Kemal, Zozan pointed out that all these people committed a crime when considered from the view of the court board.

“How could it ever constitute a crime to join Mehmet’s funeral ceremony while the top executives of the government sent letters of get well soon and condolence?”, asked Zozan and noted that Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arýnç wished Mehmed Uzun get well soon when he was in hospital and President Gül sent a letter of condolence after his death.

Remarking that Mehmet Uzun was an author whose works have been translated into 20 languages, Zozan Uzun underlined that KCK detainees have been deprived of their freedom for three years for groundless reasons such as the consideration of joining a funeral ceremony as a crime. “Mehmet could also be arrested if he were alive”, added Uzun.
