33-year-old woman murdered in the street in Amed

33-year-old Hilal Kar was murdered in the street by the man she had wed in an Islamic marriage. The police arrived late, and the perpetrator fled in a taxi.

A 33-year-old woman was killed by pistol shots in Amed (tr. Diyarbakır) on Sunday. The man she had wed in an imam marriage shot the woman from behind in the street and then fled.

According to the authorities, several emergency calls were received shortly after midday on Sunday reporting shots fired in the central district of Bağlar. When rescue workers arrived on the scene, they could only determine that the woman was dead. Neighbours criticised the fact that the shooter only managed to escape because the police arrived at the scene too late. They explained that the couple lived with three children in an Islamic marriage and had been separated for one and a half years. They said there had been repeated arguments because the husband had not wanted to accept his wife's separation from him and was constantly turning up outside their home.

After a loud argument on Saturday evening, the murderer passed the woman again today. She did not want to speak to him and took a few steps away. He then pulled out his gun and shot her in the head from behind. When she was already lying on the ground, he fired a second shot at the woman. He then calmly got into a taxi and fled.

While the body of Hilal Kar, mother of 3 children, was taken to Diyarbakır Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) Morgue for autopsy, a manhunt for the perpetrator has so far been unsuccessful.
