Kongreya Star and Democratic Union Party (PYD) have promoted a hunger strike in Amude district of Qamishlo in solidarity with DTK Co-chair and HDP MP Leyla Güven who is on hunger strike in Amed Prison since November 7 against the aggravated isolation regime imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı Island Prison.
450 people are taking part in the hunger strike action at Hûrî Culture and Arts Center which was covered with Öcalan’s posters and banners condemning the isolation.
Speaking here, Kongreya Star executive Shaxa Xelil said they will continue their actions until the isolation is lifted. Xelil pointed out that the Turkish state seeks to choke the democratic gains made by the people of the region through a committed struggle.
Hunger strikers condemned Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s threats against Northern and Eastern Syria and vowed that their struggle will continue until the isolation ends.
