4th wave of Coronavirus spreading in the Euphrates Region

Due to the rapid spread of the 4th wave of Coronavirus and increasing rates of infections in Euphrates Region, Dr Eli Şahin told effective methods to ward off Covid-19.

Due to the spread of Coronavirus (Coivd-19) in the Euphrates Region of North and East Syria, the Autonomous Administration opened a 100-bed special health center for Covid-19 patients in Kobane on 1 August 2020.

According to the data and statistics received from the administration of Coronavirus Hospital in Kobane, 765 people were infected with coronavirus and 2 of them lost their lives in September.

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr Eli Şahin spoke to ANHA about the latest situation with regard to the pandemic in North-East Syria, saying:

“The 4th wave of Coronavirus is spreading. We have observed 5-6 weeks between each wave. This frequency depends on the atmosphere and weather conditions. Covid-19 is similar to catching a cold; if the symptoms are mild, the patients can recover by themselves. On the other hand, a patient developing severe symptoms needs to be treated in a hospital.”

Ebi Eli, manager of Kobane Kurdish Red Crescent Vaccination Department, said, “Last year, on July 5, we received 500 Coronavirus vaccines and vaccinated medical personnel in all health centers. Afterwards, we vaccinated the pharmacists and independent doctors. Also, we vaccinated 30 people working for institutions of the Autonomous Administration, such as bakeries and municipalities.”

Dr Eli Şahin lastly said, “We have only 50 vaccines left. When we receive the second batch, we will vaccinate elderly groups, after which we will start work for vaccination for everyone.”
