The fighting for the liberation of Hajin on the border with Iraq, the last stronghold of the so-called Islamic State in Syria, continues. The SDF reported attacks on their positions with heavy weapons and car bombs.
Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Press Office released a statement announcing the balance sheet for the past 24 hours in the operation to defeat terrorism in the last ISIS-occupied areas to the east of the Euphrates.
Full text of the statement is as follows:
“Al-Bagouz Front: Our forces targeted the terrorists active at this front in the early morning hours, resulting in fierce clashes in six separate locations. Using heavy weaponry, the terrorists attempted to flee from the battle area. Our forces targeted their vehicle and all the terrorists in it were killed. Another mercenary using BKC machine gun was killed in the clashes area. Our forces also targeted a group of terrorists with mortar fire and three terrorists were killed here.
On the other hand, the International Coalition targeted a headquarters of the mercenaries. Results of the bombardment were not immediately clear.
In the evening hours, the terrorist groups attacked the positions of our forces in al-Sousse town in an attempt to break the defense line of our forces amid heavy fighting in this area. The resistance of our forces left several mercenaries dead and forced the rest to flee.
After their flight from the battlefield, the mercenaries gathered together again and attacked our positions. The response of our fighters resulted in fierce clashes while international coalition aircraft bombed the area where the terrorists were stationed. The attacks were repelled and several mercenaries were killed. Corpses of 10 of these remained in the area under our forces’ control.
The terrorists once again attempted to approach the positions of our forces with bomb-laden vehicles and armored vehicles. One of these vehicles was destroyed by our fighters and the others were forced to flee. Two terrorists that attempted to enter our positions were targeted by our fighters.
Hajin Front: Sporadic clashes are taking place at this front. The terrorists’ attempts to attack the positions of our fighters are thwarted through resistance.
Balance of battle for the past 24 hours:
- 51 terrorists were killed and corpses of 10 remain under our forces’ control.
- A bomb-laden vehicle and a military vehicle were destroyed.
- A BKC type machine gun, two bomb set-ups and several Kalahnikov rifles were seized by our fighters.
- International Coalition aircraft carried out 18 bombardments.”
