Dozens of members of the Executive Council and the General Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) gathered at its headquarters in the city of Raqqa today to make a statement about the Turkish threat to occupy the region.
The statement was read by the co-chair of the Executive Council, Abdel Hamid Al-Mahbash.
The statement referred to the processes of demographic change and the Turkification in the areas occupied by Turkey, saying, "The Turkish state seeks to create more chaos in Syria and in the region after more than 10 years of Turkish intervention in the Syrian crisis, which led to spreading chaos and consolidating the occupation, support for terrorism and division, as well as the imposition of an Turkish culture on Syrian society.”
Warning of the dangerous repercussions of any new attack on the region, the statement continued, “This policy will have serious repercussions in the issue of ethnic cleansing and the creation of a long-term conflict between the components of the region, which will undoubtedly threaten its future.
“Today, Turkey- held areas have turned into a great breeding ground for all the mercenaries and ISIS who fled and changed their names and identities.”
The statement also warned of a return of ISIS mercenaries, "These Turkish practices in the region will give an opportunity for thousands of ISIS families and terrorists to escape, and thus ISIS goals to emerge again will be achieved."
The statement pointed out the Turkish occupation state's disregard for international agreements and noted, "Turkey also violates international agreements related to the region, and this gives an indication that Turkey has not given any considerations to the agreement.”
The statement pointed out the danger posed by the Turkish occupying state to the territorial integrity of Syria, "As Erdogan talks about protecting Turkish national security, without a doubt, the Turkish role in Syria and in public has exacerbated the Syrian situation.
The statement of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria suggested deployment of UN forces to stop Turkey, adding, "We also stress the need for the guarantors of the ceasefire agreements to fulfil their responsibilities in Syria, and work to put an end to these Turkish practices."
The statement concluded, “We call upon our people to adopt the option of resistance against anyone who wants to attack what our people have achieved thanks to their great sacrifices. Turkey is a great danger to the victory achieved against ISIS, as well as to Syria, the region and the whole world.”
