Another murder in Hol camp

Another murder has occurred in the north-eastern Syrian Hol camp and detention center. The victim is an Iraqi refugee. The 32-year-old was literally executed with two shots in the head.

The body of a refugee was found in the Hol reception and detentuion camp near Hesekê on Sunday. The 32-year-old Iraqi from Anbar was literally executed with two shots in the head, said a spokesman for the Asayîş, the security forces of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

Nothing is known about the perpetrators, but sleeper cells of the Islamic State are suspected. The search for those responsible is being carried out by an investigative team that is also working to solve previous murder cases in Hol.

At least twelve people have been murdered in Camp Hol since the beginning of the year. An Iraqi couple was shot dead last week, and the bodies of three women had been discovered a few days earlier. According to the camp administration, there were at least 127 murders in Hol in 2021, which were mainly committed by the so-called ISIS religious police for women and the ISIS youth organization "Cubs of the Caliphate". Hol is considered the hotbed of the jihadist terrorist militia and one of the most dangerous camps in the world.

Half of all those in the camp are minors

While Hol was initially designed for 10,000 people, today more than 56,000 people from different countries stay there. Among them are thousands of ISIS families who were taken there by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) after the capture of the last ISIS bastion of Baghouz in early 2019. More than half of the detainees are minors under the age of twelve who are being taught the ISIS doctrine. This increases the risk of creating a new generation of terrorists.

ISIS women have set up their own structures and repeatedly commit atrocities against people who want to leave or stay away from ISIS or who do not live up to the standards of the terrorist organization. This situation mainly depends on the lack of international support for the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and the return of the people in the camp. Few states are willing to take back their nationals held at Camp Hol. For years, the Autonomous Administration has been warning in vain of the danger of a new generation of ISIS growing up in Hol.

Attacks increased

For about two weeks, there have been increasing numbers of ISIS attacks against military and civilian Autonomous Administration structures in some regions of the autonomous region of Northern and Eastern Syria.
