Autonomous Administration calls for release of NES representatives detained by KDP

The Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria has asked the KDP about the PYD and Autonomous Administration representatives detained in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

On June 10, KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) forces detained Autonomous Administration Hewlêr Representative Jihad Hesen and PYD (Democratic Union Party) members Mistefa Xelil and Mistefa Eziz on their way to Hewlêr Airport to receive their guests.

Since the day the political representatives were detained, there has been no news from them.

In a statement published on its official website, the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria has asked for an explanation of current situation of the arrested representatives.

The Foreign Relations Department urged international organizations to put pressure on the KDP to reveal the location of the North-East Syrian representatives and release them immediately.

The statement said the following:

“Since June 10, the fate of Autonomous Administration Hewlêr Representative Jihad Hesen and PYD members Mistefa Xelil and Mistefa Eziz remains unknown. Security forces affiliated with the Kurdistan regional government kidnapped our representatives without any explanation or warning. This also harms the common struggle and national unity of the Kurdish people.

As the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria we state that the Kurdistan regional government is responsible for the abduction. Furthermore, we have not received an official statement on the reason of the arrest.

We urge all official parties in South Kurdistan and relevant international organizations to put pressure the KDP and South Kurdistan government to disclose whereabouts of the arrested representatives and to allow their families to see them. We demand the release of our friends who have been arrested without any legal basis. We state once again that the officials in South Kurdistan are responsible for the lives and aftermath of the persons in question.”
