Autonomous Administration in North East Syria declares partial general amnesty to mark Newroz

The Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria declared a general amnesty, excluding certain crimes, on the occasion of Newroz.

On the occasion of Newroz, the General Assembly of the Northern and Eastern Syria Autonomous Administration declared a general amnesty based on Article 5 of the constitution.

The content of the law covering crimes committed before 16 March 2022 is as follows:

Article 1: All sanctions imposed on the grounds of committing a crime will be lifted.

Article 2: A- Life imprisonment sentences will be converted to 15 years of partial term imprisonment.

B- Limited sentences will be reduced to a quarter of the sentence they received.

C- Sentences of ill prisoners who cannot be treated in prison will be completely lifted.

D- The sentence for those over 75 on the day the law is enacted will be lifted

Article 3: Those convicted of any of the following crimes will be excluded from the amnesty.

A- Terrorism, betrayal and spying

B- Forgery and fraud in money

C- Rape, harassment and inhumane treatment

D- Drugs

E- If those searched by the justice authorities surrender within 60 days if they are in the Autonomous Administration areas and within 90 days if they are outside the Autonomous Administration areas, they will be treated according to the provisions of this law.

F- Those convicted of tax evasion will be excluded from the amnesty.

Article 4: Murder crimes

A- If the person who committed the murder agrees to pay compensation to the family of the person he killed

B- If the family of the murdered person refuses to make a complaint, the convict will benefit from the provisions of this law.
