Autonomous Administration says Turkey leaves 5 million people without water

Jozêf Lehdo, deputy co-chair of the North and East Syrian Autonomous Administration Council, responded to Turkey's reduction of the amount of the water flowing into the region. He said Turkey is waging a water war against 5 million people.

The Hesekê Canton Council declared a state of emergency yesterday after the Turkish state cut off the Euphrates River water. The council stated that it will distribute water to the citizens through tanks. The Turkish state, which reduced the water of the Euphrates River, also closed the Allouk (Elok) water station in Serekaniye.

“PROBLEM IS NOT ELECTRICITY”

"The Turkish state had previously cited electricity as a reason. However, the Autonomous Administration provided enough electricity to run the Allouk Station. The gangs there use the electricity provided to the Allouk Station for other locations. Therefore, the station does not receive sufficient electricity," said Jozêf Lehdo, deputy co-chair of the North and East Syrian Autonomous Administration Council.

"TURKEY DOES NOT ADHERE TO THE AGREEMENTS"

Lehdo designated the water war waged by the Turkish state against North and East Syria as immoral and inhumane.

Using dirty methods, the Turkish state puts people's lives in jeopardy, Lehdo said, adding that this war also affects Iraq negatively. The Turkish state allows 200 cubic meters of water instead of 500 cubic meters per second. Agricultural areas are also negatively affected.

“INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY REMAINS SILENT”

Lehdo stated that the Turkish state has violated international conventions. He pointed out that the amount of water that is supposed to be given to Syria and Iraq has not been provided.

“Why do the international community and health organizations remain silent while they are supposed to reject this? We also condemn the attitude of international organizations," Lehdo added.
