Bosnia-Herzegovina has taken 25 people, including seven highly suspected ISIS Jihadists, back from the self-governing areas in northern Syria.
The Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina has announced that 25 people, including at least seven strongly suspected jihadists of the terrorist militia "Islamic State" (ISIS), have been repatriated from northern Syria. According to the reports, the retrieval operation took place on Thursday. The persons in question are twelve children, six women and seven ISIS jihadists. They were taken directly to the Sarajevo public prosecutor's office on suspicion of "membership of jihadist terrorist organisations in Syria and Iraq". In addition, massive security measures were set up around Sarajevo airport.
The number of jihadists who left Bosnia and Herzegovina for Syria or Iraq between 2012 and 2016 is estimated at around 300. Half of them are adult men, but there are also about 80 children among those who left. It is estimated that about 100 of them are now dead and about 50 have returned to Bosnia and Herzegovina. So far, 24 of 44 men have been sentenced to between one and four years in prison for membership of a jihadist terrorist organisation. Observers consider the prison sentences for ISIS members to be "extremely moderate".
