Severely injured by a Turkish attack in 2018, a 17-year-old teen has lost his life in Qamishlo yesterday.
Ebdullah Berzan was injured in an attack by Turkish soldiers in northern Syria on 20 June 2018. Berzan was 12 years old when he was targeted by the attack while playing with a group of children in the village of Xerab Kortê, which borders on North Kurdistan and is located 10 km west of Qamishlo.
Hospitalized in Qamishlo with an injury to the stomach, he was referred to South Kurdistan (North Iraq) due to the severity of his injury.
Unable to afford the hospital charge, the family took their son back to Qamishlo after 17 days.
The bullet that hit Berzan in the stomach left his kidney fractured and his spine broken, rendering him unable to walk. After a couple of surgeries, he started receiving physiotherapy. The boy’s body ended up infected because of the damage he suffered to his organs.
One week ago, Berzan was taken to a hospital in Damascus where his family was told that nothing could be done to save him.
Brought back to Qamishlo, Berzan lost his struggle for life on June 24, aged 17. He was laid to rest in Qamishlo.
