Co-chair of the Euphrates Region Legislative Assembly says Islamic State still a threat

Hisên El-Shex, co-chair of the Euphrates Region Legislative Assembly, said that ISIS continues to be a threat and emphasized that an international court should be established in Northern and Eastern Syria to prosecute ISIS mercenaries.

SDF forces ended the territorial domination of ISIS mercenaries in Northern and Eastern Syria. However, ISIS mercenaries and their families held in the camps continue to pose a danger to both Syria and the world.

'ISIS continues to be a threat'

Hisên El-Şêx, co-chair of the Euphrates Region Legislative Assembly, told ANHA: "Society was faced with the danger of ISIS. There were massacres every day. The SDF saved the Syrian people from this threat. However, there are thousands of ISIS members in the camps today. The danger posed by these mercenaries continues. They're trying to target civilians."

'A special international court should be established'

El-Şêx said that an international court should be established in Northern and Eastern Syria to prosecute ISIS mercenaries. "We have suffered the most from ISIS. We should also participate in these trials. The UN and the international community should take the necessary steps in this regard. We made a call to all states to take back their nationals. However, some states still do not accept this. Such a step will ease the burden of the region."

Hisên El-Şêx underlined that ISIS is a dangerous organization not only for Syria but for the entire Middle East and the world and added that the Autonomous Administration has repeatedly appealed to the UN and Human Rights Organizations to establish an international court to prosecute ISIS mercenaries.
