In the Sorxankê village of Afrin’s Sherawa district, the invading Turkish army and the Furqat Al-Hamzat and other gangs have set fire on a total of 41 acres of land cultivated with barley and wheat, as well as 4.970 olive, fig and almond trees.
Villagers say they can’t intervene with the fire due to the invaders in the Kîmarê village targeting them constantly.
Reports say 20 families have been victimized by the invading Turkish army and their gangs setting fire to fields and trees.
Zekeriye Mecid Mihemed said: “The gangs burned my fields and ran. We couldn’t put the fire out because the gangs were targeting us.”
Another villager affected by the fires, Ayşe Mele said: “How will we make a living? We lived off our fields. We don’t know how we can live after the gangs burned our fields.”
A young man named Cuma Ebdo Berekat condemned the public’s silence in the face of the violent practices of the Turkish army and their gangs and said: “The gangs burned our fields down. They are doing inhumane things to the people of Afrin but the whole world is silent. My call for the public is to end this silence.”
Sorxankê Village Commune Co-chair Remzi Mihemed said they have no means to get past the victimization they suffered and added: “There is nothing the commune can do to help the villagers, because our means are extremely limited. So much so that the villagers are having trouble finding something to eat.”
