Curfew in North-East Syria extended

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria has extended measures against the Coronavirus pandemic until the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. The borders remain closed, but there are also easing measures.

The curfew imposed in northern and eastern Syria since 23 March as a measure against the coronavirus pandemic has been extended again. According to an order published on Monday, the curfew will provisionally remain in place until the end of Ramadan, but only for the period between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

All shops can reopen during the day, and public transport can also be used, subject to hygiene and distance rules. The borders remain closed. During the last week of Ramadan, the month of fasting, prayer in mosques and other places of worship will be made possible. Here too, the rules of hygiene must be observed. Coffeehouses, tea gardens, schools and universities will remain closed.

The canton of Hesekê is exempt from the order, which applies to the entire autonomous region, because cases of infection have occurred there. The Autonomous Board of the Cizîrê Region is responsible for the specific situation on site.
