Delegation from Germany visits Manbij

As part of a tour of northern Syria, a delegation from Germany met with representatives of the Civil Council in Manbij.

After Qamishlo and Kobanê, a delegation from Germany visited Manbij in northern Syria. In an interview with representatives of the city's Civil Council, delegation members learned about the current situation in the region and the threats made by the Turkish state.

The day before, the delegation from Germany visited the Kanton Council of Kobanê and laid a wreath at the Martyr Dîcle Cemetery.

German Parliament Bundestag member and human rights spokesperson for the Left Party, Zaklin Nastic, summarized their impressions of talks with families who had to flee Afrin in a first travel report. The report begins with an appeal to the federal government to stop tacitly approving the crimes of the Turkish state:

"On May 29, we had the opportunity to talk to several families who fled Afrin. There are currently 170,000 Afrin refugees who have fled Islamist groups and the Turkish invasion. Many of them could only flee with their shirts on their bodies because they had previously been evacuated from the villages around Afrin, hoping to return soon. A hope that is further away today than ever before. The German government and the world community must not look further and tacitly approve of the crimes of the Erdogan government!"

In the report, Zaklin Nastic gives a very clear account of what the refugees told the German delegation about the situation in Afrin and their escape.

The delegation from Germany is composed of Uwe Ahlborn (cameraman), Robert Jarowoy (author and politician), Zaklin Nastic (member of the Bundestag The Left), Prof. Peter Ott (filmmaker and producer), Yavuz Fersoglu (lawyer and NAV-DEM member), Ramazan Mendanlioglu (fellow of the University of Hamburg / Academy of World Religions), Evrim Kaya (freelance journalist), Niclas Krukenberg (student of law at the University of Hamburg), Dr. Jan van Aken (Federal Council Member DIE LINKE) and Dr. Robert Krieg (filmmaker, member of the Broadcasting Council of the WDR).
