An eleven-member delegation from Germany has left for a round trip to Rojava and Northern Syria.
From May 27 to June 4, a delegation from Germany visits Northern Syria. Among the eleven participants are Zaklin Nastic, human rights spokeswoman for DIE LINKE (The Left) in the German Parliament Bundestag, and Jan van Aken, member of the LINKE party executive committee.
"We will get an idea of the humanitarian situation in Afrin after the Turkish occupation as well as the situation in Manbij, where currently the open presence of US and French military prevent an attack by Turkish troops. The federal government must finally show its support against Turkish aggression and Kurdish self-government in Northern Syria. There, people of all religions and backgrounds can live democratically and self-governing. They need the support of the international community against the attacks of Turkey in violation of international law", demanded Jan van Aken, member of the Left Party executive committee and longtime expert of the region, in a press release.
The member of the Bundestag and human rights spokeswoman of the LINKE in Hamburg, Zaklin Nastic, added: "Well over 100,000 people fled after the occupation of Afrin by Islamists and the Turkish army. Their humanitarian situation is precarious and they urgently need help from Germany as well."
According to the press release, the places visited are Qamishlo, Kobanê, Hesekê and Manbij: "There are also plans for talks with the Kurdish authorities about a possible peace solution for Syria and current attacks by the Assad regime, about imprisoned German ISIS fighters and, of course, about chemical weapons and possible German weapons in the region."
