A delegation of the DEM Party met with the Turkish Minister of Justice, Yılmaz Tunç, and discussed solutions to problems in prisons.
The Group Deputy Chairpersons of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli, and Öztürk Türkdoğan, Co-Spokesperson of the DEM Party's Law and Human Rights Commission, met with the Turkish Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç on Tuesday. The meeting at the Ministry of Justice lasted one hour.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Sezai Temelli said, “It was a very important meeting for us. There are very serious problems arising from the practices in prisons. We held mutual consultations on these issues and also expressed our search for a solution. We hope that the ministry will take the necessary steps and the problems are resolved as soon as possible. That was the framework of our meeting. We emphasized the urgency of finding a solution. The minister said they were aware of the problem and were working on it. We requested that this issue be brought onto the agenda without delay. The prisoners are struggling for their lives. While the priority is sick prisoners, we also raised the issue of all prisoners affected by the implementation of these measures.”
