Northern and Eastern Syria Autonomous Administration Health Committee co-chair Dr. Ciwan Mistefa called on all people living in the Jazira Region to comply with the curfew declared to counter the increase of coronavirus cases.

Jazira Region Crisis Center declared a curfew throughout the Jazira Region. The ban will start at 6 am on 25 September 2021 and will continue until Friday, 1 October.

Northern and Eastern Syria Autonomous Administration Health Committee co-chair Dr. Ciwan Mistefa spoke to ANHA about the spread of coronavirus and the curfew.

Threefold increase in cases of coronavirus

Dr. Ciwan Mistefa pointed out that the number of cases had increased since the half of August. Since the beginning of September, however, there has been a threefold increase in the cases of coronavirus. Dr. Mistefa added that the number of people who lost their lives also increased.

‘Health centres are full of patients’

Stating that the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic is different from the third wave and that it spread faster, Dr. Mistefa added that the health centres are full of coronavirus patients, and that if the situation continues like this, things will get very heavy.

Dr. Mistefa said that immediate measures should be taken so that the situation does not get out of control, and that a curfew should be declared in the Jazira Region, especially in Derik, Qamishlo and Hesekê, where the number of cases is high.

‘People should not go out of their houses unless really necessary’

Stating that they will take drastic measures, Dr. Mistefa added: "People shouldn't leave their houses unless really necessary. Health centres, public municipalities, bakeries and pharmacies will continue to work with few employees and will implement a system of vigils. In addition, the bazaar will be closed and the Internal Security Forces will be on duty."

'Legal action against those not complying with the law'

Dr. Mistefa said that those who do not comply with the measures and the recommendations of the Health Committee will be prosecuted according to the laws of the Internal Security Forces, adding that they will not allow anyone to endanger the lives of other people.

Reminding that the Semalka Border Gate will be open for commercial activities, Dr. Mistefa said that health measures will be implemented at the entrance and exit of the border gate.

‘People should help the government’

Dr. Mistefa said that the Autonomous Administration and the people should stand against the third wave of coronavirus together and called on the people to help the government.
