Euphrates Canton Administration calls for international action against Turkish massacres in NE Syria

In a statement on the massacres of civilians in North-East Syria, the Autonomous Administration of the Euphrates Canton condemned the ongoing attacks and called on the international community to take action.

The invading Turkish state continues its genocidal campaign against North-East Syria where it has invaded territories in violation of international law and remarkably intensified its attacks, which are mainly directed against civilian settlements, since the fall of the Assad regime.

On January 27, Turkish forces brutally shelled the populated village of al-Jamas in the eastern countryside of Ain Issa with heavy artillery, resulting in the death of three civilians, including two children. On January 28, the Turkish state targeted the Umm Harmalah village in the Zarkan countryside with heavy artillery, resulting in the death of three civilians, including a child, and leaving nine others injured. On the same day, a Turkish UCAV bombed the public market in Sirrin, leaving 12 civilians dead and 13 others wounded. On January 29, a Turkish UCAV hit a house in Kobanê, killing two civilians and wounding one other.

The Autonomous Administration of the Euphrates Canton made a press statement denouncing the increasingly ongoing attacks by the Turkish state that claim more lives every day.

The press statement read by Najah Mişê, member of the Executive Council of the Euphrates Canton Autonomous Administration, said: “The occupying Turkish army continues its attacks against our people and forces and openly violates international and humanitarian law."

The statement pointed out that the Turkish state targeted civilians because it could not advance in strategic areas such as Qereqozaq Bridge and Tishrin Dam.

Appealing to the United Nations (UN) and international legal institutions, the statement said: “The people of North and East Syria have fought the world's largest terrorist organization for the sake of the entire world. But the very same people are now subjected to massacres by the Turkish state.”

The Autonomous Administration of the Euphrates Canton called for the Turkish state to be held accountable for its crimes, stressing that inter-Syrian dialogue is the only way out to end the Turkish occupation in the country.

The Autonomous Administration called on all the democratic forces in Syria to take a stance against Turkish attacks and to enter into a dialogue with the MSD (Syrian Democratic Council) to achieve a political solution.
