Families salute the resistance carried out by prisoners on hunger strike

The families of the prisoners, the Martyrs' Families Council and the Shehba War Veterans Committee saluted the prison resistance and called out to international institutions to stand against the persecution of their children.

Dozens of prisoners, families of martyrs and veterans gathered at Serdem Camp in Shehba Canton to salute the hunger strike resistance of the prisoners in the jails of the fascist Turkish state.

The statement was read by teacher Avdar Elo and War Veterans Committee member Gîvara Şoreş.

The statement said that the Turkish state embraced the hunger strike resistance of the prisoners in the jails, and denounced that repression and inhumane practices were carried out against the prisoners. At the same time, the statement noted that the silence of international organizations and Amnesty International gave Turkish fascism the green light to increase the repression of prisoners.

The statement continued: “Our children have been arrested for their thoughts. They have never been involved in acts of violence and have never called for violence. They just called for our legitimate rights. Fascism also cites this as the reason for their arrest. Keeping them in cells that cut them off from the outside world and torturing them both physically and psychologically. Turkey keeps them in solitary cells for a long time. Our children started a hunger strike a few months ago. They said with this action that they would not bow to Turkish fascism.”

The statement made a call to Amnesty International to prevent the brutal practices of the fascist Turkish state and its mercenaries in prisons, and added: “The torture and ill-treatment of prisoners should end and they should be allowed to meet with their families as soon as possible. Prisoners who went on hunger strike should be examined by health teams. Independent monitoring missions should be established to visit the prison. We also call on the International Security Council and the Human Rights Organization to release Leader Abdullah Öcalan.”
