First peanut plantation in Dêrik

Dêrik has fertile agricultural land and is known for its various vegetables and fruits planted in winter and summer.

The farmers in Dêrik want to gain new experiences by planting new vegetables and fruits that have not been cultivated in the region before.

Ibrahim Omer in the village of Berava in Dêrik planted peanuts, which had not been cultivated in the region, on 20 acres of land this year.

Ibrahim Omer said that the climate conditions in the region and the soil were suitable for peanut cultivation. "Sandy land suitable for peanut production is located on the edge of the Tigris River", he said.

Ibrahim Omer however, added that there is a need for technological tools that are not available in the region for peanut cultivation as this was not a product planted in the region before.

Omer called on farmers to gain experience by experimenting with new products and to the authorities to provide medicine support to prevent the spread of diseases.
