The Qamishlo People's Assembly started its municipal services after the Internal Security Forces removed the Difa al-Watani (National Defense Forces, NDF) militias from the Tai neighbourhood and a street from the Hilko neighbourhood.
Speaking to ANHA about the latest situation on the ground, Qamishlo People's Assembly Co-Chair Hesna Remo said that they have established four communes in Tai neighbourhood and one commune in Hilko neighbourhood, at the request of the local people.
The communes in Tai neighbourhood are named after Martyr Qehtan, Martyr Doxan, Martyr Ekrem and Martyr Şervan, and the commune in Hilko neighbourhood named after Martyr Lorens. Martyr Lorens is the son of Martyr Hayis El Ceryan, who was also martyred during the resistance against the militias in the neighbourhood.
Hesna Remo stated that there are 4350 families staying in the Tai neighbourhood, and each commune includes 1200 families.
She noted that an area has been reserved for two more communes.
The Difa al-Watani militias affiliated with the Damascus government attacked the Internal Security Forces' checkpoint in the Tai neighbourhood on April 20. Conflict broke out as a result of the Internal Security Forces' legitimate self-defence. The fighting gradually escalated and reached the Hilko neighbourhood. The Internal Security Forces freed the Tai neighbourhood from the militias on April 25 after several days of clashes.
