Four-year-old freezes to death during flight from besieged Shehba

A four-year-old boy of a family from Afrin, who were displaced by the latest wave of attacks in Shehba region, died in an emergency shelter for internally displaced persons in Raqqa.

As attacks and murders by Turkish-backed mercenaries cost lives in North-East Syria, fleeing is also dangerous, especially for children. Four-year-old Nûh Mihemed Reşo froze to death in the stadium of Raqqa after the cold took a toll on the toddler during the escape. His family fled to Shehba from the Turkish occupation in 2018 and then had to flee again to Raqqa to escape the Turkish jihadist incursion into the region.

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria does not have the resources to care for the many internally displaced persons and has already made an urgent appeal to the international community and the United Nations to provide support and to open the closed border crossing at Til Koçer.
