Due to the heavy embargo imposed by the Damascus government, gas cylinders for cooking have not been allowed in the Cantons of Afrin and Shehba for about 5 months.
The heavy embargo imposed by the Damascus government means, among other things, that gas cylinders for cooking are not allowed in the Cantons of Afrin and Shehba Cantons for about 5 months.
According to the Gas Storages Directorate, since 29 September 2022, cylinders have not been allowed in.
The authorities said that some 25 thousand cylinders are needed monthly in the cantons, and added that the Damascus government had previously allowed the passage of 7,000 every two months.
In the canton, where thousands of more people have settled after the earthquake, they have to cook their meals on fire. Many people use plastics to start fires, thus polluting the environment.
In the past two months, two fires broke out in Serdem Camp due to the burning of plastic waste.
The embargo imposed by the Damascus government on the canton adds to the suffering of the people.
