Hardships grow for migrants ignored by aid organizations

Thousands of families from various parts of Syria who have had to migrate due to clashes between regime forces and gang groups have since settled in camps in Raqqa

The hardships the migrants suffer grow due to aid organizations not doing their jobs.

The hardships thousands of migrant families in the Al Rajim Al Abyad migrant camp in Raqqa suffer grow due to aid organizations not doing their jobs.

The aid that does arrive is not enough to meet the needs of the migrants. Humanitarian organizations have promised families in the camp aid many times, but they haven’t kept these promises.

The camp was set up close to canals to be able to meet the water needs of its populace, but migrants suffer great hardships because they receive no support and their tents are damaged.

Amir Al Xalid from Deir Ez Zor said: “The aid organizations repeating the same promises gets on our nerves at this point. Because they only make promises, and we no longer believe them.” Amir Al Xalid said he has to work in fields every day to meet the daily needs of his family, and that he shares the money he makes with other families: “Because planting season is over, farmers don’t want workers anymore.”

A mother said the aid organizations only held a census in the camp: “They haven’t provided us with any aid to date. They offered aid only twice in one year, and the amoun they gave did not meet the need. There were some migrants who received the aid, but many others refused the packages because there wasn’t enough for other families.”

Another citizen who wished to remain anonymous said there should be a committee to oversee the equal distribution of the aid.

The Al Rajim Al Abyad Migrant Camp is 25 km from Raqqa, and there are 700 families living there. Aid organizations active in the northern rural areas of Raqqa offer aid that falls short of the need almost completely.
