HRE fighter Zîn Sekvan was martyred in an attack by the Turkish state in the Afrin region.
Afrin Liberation Forces (HRE) announced the martyrdom of one of their fighters, Zîn Sekvan, in an attack by the Turkish state on 18 August.
Zîn Sekvan's real name was Roşîn Elî and she was from Kobanê. She was organised within the Rojava Revolution since 2016 and joined the HRE two years later. HRE was founded in response to the war of aggression by Turkey and its jihadist allies against Afrin, which resulted in the occupation of the Kurdish region in March 2018. Its primary goal is to defeat the Turkish occupation forces and liberate Afrin.
In spring 2019, women active within the HRE organised themselves into the autonomous Şehîd Avesta Resistance Group. The formation is named after the YPJ fighter Avesta Xabûr, who blew herself and a Turkish tank up on 27 January 2018 to avert a massacre in a village near Jindires. Zîn Sekvan was one of the co-founders of the female resistance group.
HRE described Zîn Sekvan as a selfless comrade whose ideal was to seek retribution for her people and her fallen comrades. With courage and determination, Zîn Sekvan dedicated herself to the responsibility of playing a vanguard role in life and war to provide answers to the suffering of her people. "She was a trailblazer who showed us how to carry out dignified resistance for the liberation of women and the people. We extend our condolences to the family of Zîn Sekvan and pledge to avenge the death of our comrade and achieve the goals for which she gave her life.”
HRE said they are determined to free Afrin from the poisonous grip of the occupiers.
