IDPs in Washokani Camp condemn the isolation of Öcalan

Demonstrations demanding freedom for Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan continue all around the world.

Immigrants living in the Washokani Camp in the northern Syrian canton of Heseke staged a demonstration in protest at the aggravated isolation of Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The demonstration was organized by the Washokani Camp Council and women’s movement Kongreya Star and joined by hundreds of people who also protested the occupation attacks of the Turkish army outside its borders.

Speaking at the rally that followed the march, Kongreya Star administrator Besime Mihemed condemned the isolation of the Kurdish leader, describing it as “an inhumane act”.

Mihemed pointed out that the Turkish state wanted to break the will of peoples by denying family and lawyer meetings on Imrali where Öcalan has been held since his abduction from Kenya and handover to Turkey in an international plot in 1999.

Mihemed noted that Turkey’s attacks on Kurdistan territory have intensified since worldwide calls and actions for Öcalan’s freedom increased.

The demonstration was concluded with slogans saluting the resistance of the Kurdish leader.
