The Executive Council of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) has issued a statement regarding the framework agreement signed between the General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, and the interim President of Syria, Ahmed Sharaa.
The statement underlined that "the agreement includes provisions for the Kurds' participation in the transitional phase of drafting a new constitution for all of Syria, ensuring political and national rights, and providing guarantees for both civil and military institutions. It also affirms that the SDF will take part in establishing Syria's future army and that the oil and natural gas resources in the Autonomous Administration-controlled regions will be shared with the central government. Additionally, the agreement stipulates that expert committees will be appointed to negotiate and oversee the implementation of all its provisions, shaping its scope based on the parties' intentions and demands."
The KNK added: "Most importantly, we hope that this agreement will guarantee the recognition and existence of the Kurdish people in the constitution, paving the way for a political solution and an official status for Rojava. This is a historic achievement and serves the interests of all parties. It is a crucial first step toward a lasting solution that ensures respect for different religions and ethnic groups, both in the areas under SDF control and across Syria as a whole."
The statement further expressed support for this process and added: “The KNK considers this agreement highly significant and view it as a major step toward resolving political and national issues in the region and gradually achieving stability. While this agreement was being signed, we were aware of brutal attacks being attempted against Alevi and Christian civilians. We hope that this agreement, with SDF’s efforts, will serve as a foundation for all the peoples of Rojava and Syria to live in peace and security, and contribute to achieving political and social stability. The KNK supports this process and calls on all democratic and peace-loving forces to back this initiative to ensure its success and find political solutions to all existing challenges.”
